So your new Cellular Shades have arrived and it's time to get the installation process started. We'll include screws suitable for mounting into timber, but if you need to mount your shades into dry wall (no studs), tiles, brick or metal we recommend you visit your local hardware store to get the correct fixings.

If you follow these instructions, it should only take about 5 minutes to install each of your new Cellular Shades.

What you'll need!

Before you get started we recommend you have the following tools:

  • Cordless drill (with a 1/8" drill bit and phillips head driver bit)
  • Step ladder
  • Metal tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Spirit level

Step 1 - Check what's in your pack

Once you open the packaging, we recommend you cover the following list off before you get started:

  • Brackets - 2 x for shades less than 39.5" wide, 3 x for shades 39.5" to 67". 4 x for shades 67" to 96" and 5 brackets for shades 96"+
  • 1 x shade
  • 2 x bracket screws per bracket
  • 1 x control handle
  • 1 x remote control (motorized option if you have selected this item)

It's a good idea to wait until you're ready to clip in your shade before you remove the protective plastic packaging.

Step 2 - Mark your brackets

Depending on whether you chose to mount your shade as and Inside or Outside mount will dictate where to place your brackets.

Inside mount brackets are usually fixed evenly spaced out to the top of the window reveal. You want the brackets to sit in about 3" from each end of where the shade will be positioned.  Make a mark with your pencil through the centre hole at the top of the bracket.

Outside mount brackets are going to be placed as per where your measurements were taken.

If you have window frames around your windows, space the brackets along the top of the window frame evenly, with the widest brackets 3" in from the overall width of the shade. Make 2 pencil marks in the back holes of the brackets.

If you have windows without frames, the brackets need to be spaced evenly across at the height at which you measured the shade, with the widest brackets being placed about 3" in from the overall width of the shade. Mark 2 holes at the back of the bracket where you they will be fixed to the wall.

Step 3 - Pre drill bracket holes

Using you 1/8" drill bit, make a hole about 1" deep where you have made your pencil markings.

Step 4 - Screw in your brackets

Using your phillips head drill bit, attach the brackets with 1 screw for inside mount brackets and 2 screws for outside mount brackets.

For outside mount brackets, use your spirit level to ensure all brackets are level with each other. Make adjustments to this as required.

Step 5 - Clip in the shade

Line to top lip on the front of the top rail of the shade up with the top hook of all the brackets. You should then be able to apply a small amount of pressure to activate the springs and roll the back of the head rail of the shade into the brackets. As you reduce the pressure, you should feel the shade click into place.

If you need to remove the shade, this can be done by applying pressure to the front of the head rail of the shade and rotating the back out from the brackets.

Step 6 - Fix the pulling handle or program your motor

Once your shade is installed it's time to get the controls setup. For motorized shades, follow the programming instructions here. Ensure that once you pair the remote control you test the shade fully before locking in the upper and lower limits.

For chainless operated Cellular Shades you will need to clip the pulling handle to the bottom rail of the shade. This is done by hooking the back of the clip to the bottom rail and clipping the front section on.

Pro tips

  1. For outside mount shades ensure that all your brackets are fixed level to one another.
  2. If the chainless operation doesn't seem to be working perfectly, pull the shade to the fully closed position and then open it fully again, this should fix any tension issues.
